The novel follows Rob Johnson, whose impulsive decision to pocket a gold chain discovered in a cenote quickly spirals into danger. To save him, Nicholas Marz—a capable, unconventional West Texas naturalist—sets out in his custom VW Westfalia camper to deliver ransom gold, only to turn the tables and launch a dangerous escape.
